Those of you who know me also know that I'm especially fond of this novel. I suppose trying to pick your favorite novel is like trying to pick your favorite child--impossible, right? This one hits close to home though. I really felt the heroine's pain, probably because her growing up years were similar to my own in many ways. And in the end, she triumphs in a way that would make every southern girl proud!

Here's the description:

What if the one thing you wanted most was the one thing you could never have? What If you’d done something so terrible that you could never go back?

Delia Reynolds is not trailer trash, and she has spent a lifetime trying to prove it. She has it all—money, social status, a husband that loves her, then why is she so miserable? Why is she haunted by her past?
Delia tries to mold her daughter, Sybil, into her debutante life, but it’s like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. When Sybil’s husband abandons her for another woman, she flees the fast-paced life of Atlanta and takes her daughter to, of all places, Delia’s hometown, nearly sending Delia over the edge. Faced with the trauma of losing her daughter to the place she spent a lifetime trying to escape, Delia is forced to relive the horrors of the past—horrors that began when her younger sister fell for the son of a snake handler.
Sybil chooses the town because of its tranquil setting, and because her mother took her there when she was a child. She doesn’t realize the town is warring over the possibility of a chemical company moving there. She takes a job at the real estate office that is negotiating the sale of the property to the chemical company and becomes entangled in an explosive battle that escalates to murder.
Sybil becomes involved in a tempestuous relationship with Kade Langston, a police officer who is bitterly opposed to the chemical company. He’s everything she ever wanted in a man and more. She starts to suspect that there may be more to him than meets the eye when one of the partners in the real estate group turns up dead.
The horrors of the past refuse to stay buried, and there are those waiting in the shadows to exact revenge. The past and present collide in a blood-curdling climax as the poisonous serpents make their way to the surface once more.
